Swedish Hasbeens
Her name was Anita and she was the hottest mum in all of southern Sweden in the 1970’s. While smoking Camels she screamed at her kids until her curlers fell out and just looked fabulous in her white high-heeled clogs.
One summer day in 2006 we found the shoes she wore (300 pairs of red, white and black beautiful clogs from the 70’s) in the basement of an old clog factory in the neighboring village and brought them to Stockholm. So for all these people that shared our love for Anita’s wooden shoes and for ourselves we started Swedish Hasbeens.
Our ambition is to continue to release more incoherent and fun shoes and stuff inspired by Hasbeens that once ruled the planet.
The Hasbeens toffels, bags and belts are based on original 70’s models and are made of ecologically prepared natural grain leather since it’s the most beautiful and the highest quality at the same time as it’s environmentally friendly.
They are still handmade with respect for people and the environment in the same small Swedish factory since the 1970's. Our production methods and material are kind to nature and people. Happy toffels make happy people.
The shoes of the Swedish fashion brand Swedish Hasbeens were chosen as the trend of the year in Sweden at the annual Trend Award Gala 2008 in Stockholm.
During 2008 Swedish Hasbeens have become one of Sweden’s fastest growing fashion brands and now sells in 15 countries.
Happy Toffels For A Happy Planet!
We are inspired by the respect for nature and people that started in the US in the 1970’s. When a whole generation was liberated from boring clothes and nature, music and human rights became more important than bureaucrats in polyester suits fighting over oil. They were brave, individual and strong and they dressed like it. They made us all realize that we are not anonymous and typecast consumers but instead the largest power the earth has seen. We are the power that can change the future for all by acting together. That means that our shoes will always be happy shoes, made by happy people that help us make this planet a happier place.
Why are our shoes sustainable? Short answer is that we only use high-quality natural material and simple construction that can easily be repaired so they last. A pair of Hasbeens can with the right care last you a lifetime and if you don’t give them to your kids you can plant them and they will disappear.
The wood - We only use Swedish alder wood and lime-tree that has been harvested and grown according to the regulations of the preservation of the forests.
The leather - We are one of the very few manufacturers that only use chrome free natural grain leather. The leather has been vegetable tanned without chromium and the colors are natural.
The rubber soles - Instead of PVC (plastic) we use rubber, which is a more environmentally friendly alternative. On certain models we have already began to reintroduce natural rubber.
The production – They are hand-made according to old manufacturing processes that are good to people and nature.
The transports – Since we work mainly with local producers and local material the transports can be minimized during the production. When we transport the shoes to other countries we make sure they are transported in as environmentally friendly ways as possible.
