Hotel du Nord in Bornholm

I guess my mind is on hotels this week. I’m heading to Stockholm tomorrow to view Odd Molly’s world premier of their Spring / Summer 2010 collection on Saturday night – (Make sure to watch, either at their site or on ours after the show).

I’ve been dreaming of spending a summer week at a lovely hotel in Scandinavia, and  Hotel du Nord in Bornholm, a small Danish island just south east of Sweden’s southern coast would fit the bill nicely. The hotel looks so totally relaxed and cozy! It’s built in an old print factory, with a view over the ocean, and they serve communal dinners at a long table for 20 persons. Plus the whole place is extremely child friendly with…

Creators Inn Stockholm, super hip idea!

Are you a creative person and eager to stay in Stockholm? Swedish clothing brand Elvin and Scandic Malmen in Stockholm launches in August Creators Inn. One of the Scandic hotel rooms have been designated and in the late summer of the first six weeks (from August), you can experience the creative world’s first free “hotel-in-hotel” concept. In order to live free must have a legitimate reason, as a party weekend with friend does not work as the reason.

Creators Inn is a project initiated by Gothenburg-based design Next Century Modern with clothing label Elvin. Too bad this place won’t be ready for my trip to Stockholm next weekend. I will have to try next time!

Sweden Here I Come

This is one of the most anticipated times of the year for my family. We work and wait all year until the time approaches where we get to go back to Sweden for the summer. We get to escape to a magical little island called Öland. It’s off the South Eastern Coast of Sweden, just below another island, Gotland.

One can never anticipate what the weather will be, as it can be hotter than the Southern Californian area where we live, or it can rain or as this summer’s begining unfortunately started for the Swedes, cold. But when it’s warm and sunny, there is no other place we’d rather be. Öland, which has been called the pearl of Sweden, is the province where the…

Imaginative furniture for children

bild-6-450x295

Furniture made for children are ether small versions of furniture for adults, or they tend to have strong colours and crazy shapes that leaves little space for imagination. These different design categories became the starting point for a new furniture concept. The aim for Please design was to create furniture that could work in a space that adults and children share while keeping a playful spirit. Giving the furniture strong characters without being gender orientated.

MyAnimo bench and A4 screen wall are lightweight furniture for children from 3 to 6 years old. They are inspired by the way children see the world. MyAnimo’s abstract shape wants to encourage imagination and can be a hippo as well as a cave. They can be connected together to create a longer curved…

scandinavian-pic-for-blog

One of the greatest things about owning/operating huset-shop.com is that I get to travel to Scandinavia several times a year. During each trip, I do my best to locate some new, up-and-coming designers and secure the latest modern Scandinavian products to make available to you, my huset customers.

I’ll be leaving in less than a week and would love to know what you would like me to be on the lookout for.

Is there a particular designer you want me to check out?

Or maybe a type of product you’d like me to consider carrying that I’m not carrying now?

Please leave your comments and I will do my best to find just what  you’re after.

Off to shop,
Holly

Urban Bicycle Helmets

yakkay_4

Thanks to Danish company Yakkay you can now protect yourself while riding your bicycle and still be fashionable. The Yakkay urban bicycle helmets is a great combination of security and aesthetics. So far they are strangely enough more or less one of its kind. It’s brainwear for smart people – the use of a helmet decreases the possibility for head injury if you crash with fifty percent.

It works like this:

1. Start to find a helmet that fits your head. The helmets have special protection pads inside.

2. The choose the cover of your taste.

Yakkay are constantly developing new covers in different designs and colours. Why not by a couple of different ones so you can use the cover that best fits your style of the…

Blanket Statement

bonus-scary-shot-big

This is a carpet made from a recycled Swedish wool blanket. These beautiful traditional woven blankets are getting replaced by less scratchy modern comforters and end up piled up in thrift stores. This designer re-used the blankets into a soft contemporary rug, while hinting at another type of outfashioned interior item: the classic bear skin rug.
