Posted October 21st, 2010 by holly@huset 3 Comments »

After several years of research and development a bicycle helmet unlike anything available on the market was launched yesterday. It’s bicycle helmet called Hövding (chieftain) that does not even sit on your head. The founders and inventors Anna Haupt and Terese Alstin showed up world news at the Technical Fair in Stockholm.

According to the designers: “- We wanted to develop a protection for cyclists that take account of the requests we got in our investigations. The protection would include preserving the sense of freedom and not ruin your hairstyle, says Terese Alstin which is one of the inventors.”

Hövding is a discreet collar that the cyclist is wearing around his neck. The collar contains a folded airbag which is visible only at a collision. The airbag is designed as …

A Swedish Classic

Posted April 22nd, 2010 by holly@huset 1 Comment »

I want a new bicycle for my birthday this summer, but not just any bicycle will do, I’m in love with the classic Swedish bicycle from Skepphult. I’ve been wanting one of these bicycles for a very long time, actually since the first time I rode one over 12 years ago. The classic Swedish bicycle brand Skeppshult is known for their wonderfully built, super comfortable bikes. Cycles from Skeppshult are renowned for their high quality and good design. As proof of this the Skeppshult bicycle is the only bicycle to receive the prestigious award of Swedish Design Excellence.

I have pedaled around Småland Sweden on one of these bicycles, (always rented), and now I think it’s time to own my very own. The only problem is, which color to chose, …

rvw_mollis_515
RVW is a new Swedish furniture manufacturer founded by designers Jonas Nordgren and Johannes Herbertsson who grew tired of the fast paced design business and decided to take matters into their own hands. RVW stands for consistency and condemns trends and hype in order to produce furniture that has no expiration date.
Based in Malmö in the southern part of Sweden, RVW works closely with suppliers in the Öresund region and Småland to produce their furniture. Besides breathing life in local artisanship, they also pay homage to Scandinavias design heritage.?“We see it as something self-explanatory to continue on the Scandinavian design heritage and to produce something specific from the library of materials, ideas and forms crafted over centuries,” says Johannes Herbertsson.

Scandinavia is Getting Darker

Posted October 16th, 2009 by holly@huset No Comments »

norm-06-together
There is nothing like a Scandinavian summer evening where you can stay outside until midnight and still enjoy a bit of light. But there is also a dark side – the cold, dark and rainy winter-days. It’s starting to get dark when Scandinavians get up in the morning and will be dark again beforethey come back from work.
norm06-lama
That is probably the reason why Scandinavians surround themselves with “tons of light”. They put candlelight everywhere and light up their homes with plenty of lamps. Here some pictures from Normann Copenhagen’s offices, one day when it was cold, wet and windy!!! They took these pictures of the Norm 06 lamp in a corridor of their offices in Copenhagen.

Imaginative furniture for children

Posted July 16th, 2009 by holly@huset 1 Comment »

bild-6-450x295

Furniture made for children are ether small versions of furniture for adults, or they tend to have strong colours and crazy shapes that leaves little space for imagination. These different design categories became the starting point for a new furniture concept. The aim for Please design was to create furniture that could work in a space that adults and children share while keeping a playful spirit. Giving the furniture strong characters without being gender orientated.

MyAnimo bench and A4 screen wall are lightweight furniture for children from 3 to 6 years old. They are inspired by the way children see the world. MyAnimo’s abstract shape wants to encourage imagination and can be a hippo as well as a cave. They can be connected together to create a longer curved bench …

Experimental Design from Apocalypse

bild-7-450x439

Swedish experimental design group APOCALYPSE presented four new products made from materials with history at the DMY design festival in Berlin last week.

The Pot and Shelf Torso uses a few of the 360 million tires consumed yearly in the EU. As pots and shelves, the tires get a new life.  The material is made by granulated tires ground into a powder which is mixed with recycled plastic. The binding is reinforced with a patented molecule. More than 95 % of the content is made from recycled materials and it can be recycled over and over.

The Parquet Multicolor Herringbone is also made from recycled car tires and plastic packages. This new version comes in five different colors.

The Lamp Blob is made from start clumps from the plastic industry. …
