Semlor Recipe

February 12 this year is Fettisdagen (Fat Tuesday). Because it is the last day before the Lenten fast, a tradition has developed of eating buns, called “fastlagsbullar”, “fettisdagsbullar” (Fat Tuesday Buns) or “semla”. We suggest starting celebrating Fat Tuesday early so you can enjoy as much semlor as possible!

Make your own “semla”
This recipe yields 16-20 buns.
Ingredients:
5 Tablespoons butter
1 cup milk
1-1/2 Tablespoons yeast
1 pinch salt
3 Tablespoons sugar
3 cups wheat flour
1 teaspoon cardamom
1/2 cup egg, beaten
Filling:
10 oz. almond paste
1/2 cup milk
1-1/2 cups double cream
confectioner’s sugar

Directions:
Melt the butter in a saucepan, pour in the milk and warm until lukewarm (99° F). Crumble the yeast in a bowl and stir in a little of the warm …

Danish Design I Like It!

The world-famous designer Jasper Morrison has always been fascinated by Danish design. His work has often been described as more Scandinavian than British in spirit, so its no surprise to hear that he has answered a call to curate and stage an exhibition on Danish design in Copenhagen’s Design Museum in Denmark. Danish Design – I like it! is an external and international look at Danish design and the exhibition marks the change of name from the Danish Museum of Art & Design to Design museum Denmark.

Awards Season

Its award season not only in here in Hollywood. Its everywhere. The Swedish Elle Awards took place a couple of weeks ago in Stockholm for all the Swedish fashionistas. I used to work for Elle Magazine Sweden, and this party was the biggest happening each year. My time at Elle Magazine was 1997 to 2002, and it was such a big deal, today it’s a bit different and much bigger.
