Copenhagen Fashion Week

Copenhagen Fashion Week kicked off Wednesday, February 4 and the show schedule looked more enticing than ever before. Young talented designers made their way to the runways of the fashion capital of Scandinavia, adding new creativity to an established fashion week. Designers such as Wackerhaus, Bibi Ghost, Stine Goya, Soulland and Vilsbøl de Arce are among the rising stars of Copenhagen Fashion Week.

Scanning through the first few collections of the season, I found myself deeply intrigued by Ivana Helsinki’s  interpretation of the broad shoulders trend.

Instead of placing them more predictably on jackets, the label’s A/W09 collection featured heavily on frilly, ruffled dresses printed with the star motif, often paired with high bowed necklines.

This may be a little reminiscent of Balenciaga’s floral armours with the rounded shoulders – both takes something very masculine and meshed it up with something decidedly girlie – but considerably more wearable and less intimidating.

Although in the rest of the collection, shoulders resumes normal proportion, a broader silhouette is hinted at, even in the least likely of material, like knit.

Tomorrow we’ll show you Bruuns Bazaar, Designers Remix Collection and Rutzou.

Stay tuned!
