Featured Designer: Hanna Werning

Hanna Werning is one of the most successful Swedish designers at the moment, and it’s easy to see why. Her patterns, made out of plants and animals, are impossible not to like. Recently Hanna has  teamed up with Boråstapeter to create a new collection of wallpaper. She says ” My new wallpaper collection London was a challenge, like writing a second book,” But she isn’t just satisfied with creating something new. Hanna wants to change our way of looking at things. She wants to surprise. The inspiration for the new wallpaper comes from London. Cascades of water and light spectra have been filled with the colour of the streetlife and an ethnic mix of fragrances, symbols and impressions. The pattern is built up with different graphic techniques – screen print, collage, abstracts. They are all just lovely.

Hanna Werning works as an independent designer with both self-initiated and commissioned work. Since 2004 she is running her own company, Spring Street Studio in Stockholm.

The name comes from her time living in London where she was educated as a Graphic Designer at Central St. Martins College of Art & Design. During that period she came up with her own most recognized product; Animal Flowers wallpaper-posters, for which, in 2004, she received the Swedish Elle Decoration Design Award for “Wallcoverings and Wallpaper”.

Hanna has a specialty for making patterns and has desiged prints for Boråstapeter, Borås Cotton, IKEA, Rörstrand, Eastpak and fashion labels such as Anna Sui and Dagmar. She also regularly lectures and does workshops at various art colleges and museums both in Sweden and abroad.
